The Drone Project creates a unique opportunity for students in Calc III/Differential Equations. Students build, test, fly, and refine multiple drones from scratch. This process requires teamwork, creativity, perseverance, and quite a few extra blades for the frequent crashes. With the drone, students are able to capture data in 3-d using GPS, plot that data with mathematical computation software, and analyze the result; however, the drone can also be used in conjunction with other projects. For instance, measuring changes in surface area of reservoirs to monitor changing water volume.
